DIGITAL SWITCHOVER READINESS

Independent Telephony
Audits for Complex Sites
and Critical Services

PBXiT helps hotels, care environments, multi-site businesses and complex estates identify, understand and safely migrate legacy analogue and ISDN services before the PSTN & copper switch-off.

The risk is not just the phone line. The real risk is not knowing what that line supports.

Hidden analogue services may support:

  • Lift emergency phones and refuge communication points

  • Fire alarm panels, intruder alarms and security signalling

  • Door entry, access control, CCTV and monitoring systems

  • Payment terminals, fax machines, modems and plant equipment

  • Legacy PBX trunks, DDI ranges and out-of-band support lines

THE CHALLENGE

The analogue switch-off is a
business continuity risk

Many organisations have moved their main telephony forward, but still retain older analogue lines supporting operational, safety and monitoring systems. These services are often poorly documented, buried in billing records, or known only to long-serving site staff.

PBXiT helps answer the questions suppliers often cannot answer without discovery.

✓ What PSTN, ISDN and analogue services are still active?

✓ Where do those lines physically terminate?

✓ Which lines support critical systems and which are redundant?

✓ Which vendors must be involved before migration?

✓ What is the safest and most cost-effective migration path?

CORE OFFERING

Telephony audit and migration readiness services

PBXiT provides structured discovery, technical investigation and practical reporting to help organisations move from uncertainty to controlled digital transition

01

Analogue Line Audit

Identify active PSTN lines, understand what they support, classify risk and determine whether each line should be migrated, replaced, ceased or investigated further.

02

ISDN & PBX Review

Review ISDN2, ISDN30, DDI ranges, legacy PBX trunks, analogue extensions and associated voice infrastructure before migration planning.

03

Critical Device Discovery

Locate services connected to lifts, alarms, door entry, PDQs, monitoring devices, emergency phones, faxes, modems and plant infrastructure.

04

Multi-Site Estate Audit

Create a consolidated view of telephony risk across hotels, branches, offices, care locations, depots, warehouses or mixed property estates.

05

Migration Readiness

Prepare evidence and technical insight for SIP, hosted voice, cloud telephony, Teams Phone, alarm signalling replacement or alternative digital services.

06

Vendor Coordination

Support engagement with lift, fire, alarm, payment, access control, telecare, BMS and specialist system providers before line changes are made.

Why PDPL still needs investigation

Many organisations have accepted PDPL because an analogue line was still active, but that does not always mean the line is understood, business-critical or still required. In some cases, the line may support a lift phone, fire or intruder alarm, door entry, payment terminal, fax, modem, plant system or an old PBX service. In others, it may be unused and simply generating higher ongoing cost.

✓ PDPL keeps legacy equipment connected while migration is planned, but it is not the destination.

✓ Every PDPL line should be traced, tested and linked to the equipment or service it supports.

✓ Lines that are no longer needed should be ceased as soon as it is safe to do so.

✓ Lines supporting critical devices should be moved to a proper IP, VoIP or specialist digital replacement.

BT's Pre-Digital Phone Line can help keep some legacy handsets and equipment working while moving services away from the PSTN. But it should be treated as a temporary transition product, not a reason to delay understanding what is connected to the line.

PDPL is a bridge, not a long-term solution

PRE-DIGITAL PHONE LINE

PBXiT PDPL Line Investigation Service

PBXiT helps companies that have installed PDPL lines from BT to find out exactly what those lines are doing and what needs to happen next.

✓ Review BT PDPL line records, bills and known site information.

✓ Trace the analogue line to the end device, socket, panel, PBX, alarm, lift, modem or service.

✓ Confirm whether the line is active, critical, redundant, unknown or suitable for change.

✓ Identify whether the connected equipment can work over IP/VoIP or needs vendor replacement.

✓ Produce a RAG-rated PDPL action report showing cease, migrate, replace or investigate-next steps.

Red: Critical dependency

The PDPL line supports safety, alarm, lift, access, care, monitoring or business-critical equipment. Do not cease or migrate until the end device and replacement path are confirmed.

Already moved to PDPL?

Do not let a temporary fix become a permanent cost. PBXiT can identify what each PDPL line supports, confirm whether it is still needed and help you plan the right IP or VoIP replacement route.

Amber: Needs vendor action

The line has a known use, but the connected equipment needs checking by a lift, alarm, fire, access control, payment, BMS or telecare provider before moving to IP.

Green: Cost-saving opportunity

The line appears unused, duplicated or no longer required. PBXiT helps validate this so the service can be safely ceased and avoid unnecessary PDPL charges.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITY

Deep telephony knowledge, not just a spreadsheet review

PBXiT understands the difference between a billing record and a working service. We know why low call usage does not always mean low importance, and why a controlled migration starts with evidence.
